Environmental Testing
Environmental Testing & Contamination Control
Environmental Testing includes taking sample readings of temperature, humidity, and airborne particulate levels, especially zinc whiskers, within the data centre or comms room. This sampling provides a snap shot of the conditions within the mission critical facility and will help to identify any immediate risks which need to be addressed.
Zinc Whisker Remediation
Zinc whiskers are small fibre like growths that can be found on zinc-plated products.
Zinc is used as a coating to prevent rust or oxidation and data centres often contain zinc coated steel floor tiles.
Over time, the zinc plating on the steel will ‘grow whiskers’, which when dislodged from the tiles, can infiltrate equipment causing short circuits, voltage variances, and even equipment failures. 8 Solutions identify and remove these contaminants, dramatically reducing the risk of hardware failure.
Particle Counter
For more information on zinc whiskers, see the 8 Solutions white paper on the topic.
Particle Counts
Machine Room environments must follow the ISO 14644-1 Clean Room Standards.
Data centres should be at Class 7 or above.
8 Solutions conducts particle counts to understand the level of contamination within your data centre and then provides a computer room deep clean to ensure Class 7 is attained.
