October 29, 2010

Telcommunications provider BT and Logica have signed up with data center operator Next Generation Data, which has a data center in Wales that it claims can run 100% on renewable energy.

The data center operator told eweek Europe that it believes it is the first in Europe to offer such power savings.

It’s 750,00 sq ft data center is powered by renewable energy supplier Smartest Energy, which purchases electricity from independent generators in the UK. Its operations are backed up by 180 Megavolt Amperes from a sub-station which connects to the national grid.
