Chinese media firm invests £10m in UK online and 3D TV centre

UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Deputy Premier of China Li Keqiang, have witnessed a -£10 million investment by Xiking Culture Media (Beijing) to establish a London based data centre and render farm, aimed at the creative video and TV industries.

Xikingwho really operates a TV channel in the UK, Propeller TVsays that its investment in Soho Data Holdings, a sister company to Vision IPTV and Playout247, will create the first dedicated broadcast data centre in the heart of London’s vibrant media sector.

The carrier neutral, 4000sqm high-specification data centre is designed to support the latest technology demands for the video animation, 3D TV and internet TV industries. It will offer a range of data centre servicesfrom co-location, through managed services to high-yield computational capacitythat are said to be able to support state of the art rendering applications.

Soho Data Holdings already operates a small data centre, Soho Data Centre, providing in-house support to its sister businesses, Vision IPTV and Playout247. Xiking believes that in addition to the room the convenience of having a data hub close by, the new centre will offers highly competitive rates thanks to the shorter data circuits that the local location provides.
